Logos are some of the most challenging, yet creative process-oriented freelance projects. For me, it’s a real collaboration between myself and the client. The first round is almost a shot in the dark, but it definitely helps narrow the field and focus the wish list. These are some of the logos I’ve created.

NGM: First Look TV promos

While at National Geographic Magazine, I did post-production graphics each month for the TV commercial promoting the latest issue on newsstands. Hans Weise edited/produced the pieces, and I plugged in the graphics. It was a project I looked forward to each month, but never got to see on TV (I didn’t have Nat Geo in my cable package)!

While at National Geographic Magazine, I volunteered my After Effects skills to create short promo web videos featuring glimpses of each page of the current newsstand issue. This one was for the “Bahamas Blue Holes” issue in August of 2010.

Honeywell: Graphics opener

A Ventana Productions project, Dec 2011. Short graphics opener for a Honeywell Hometown Solutions video highlighting their partnership with Rebuilding Together, specifically a community rebuilding project in Mexico, that helps low-income homeowners with much-needed repairs and upgrades to their homes.

AIGA 50 video credits

Volunteer MoGraph Design
April 2012

A close colleague of mine, who organized DC’s AIGA 50 event at the Corcoran on 4/25, asked me to create the credits for this year’s 3 video winners to be shown at the exhibition. Instead of slopping together some standard white type on black background, I couldn’t resist getting a little funky with it. Thanks to the awesomely designed graphic elements created by Polygraph, I was able to make something that looked pretty darn cool.

Here are the credits strung together (the winning videos were slotted in between these credits for the real deal):

Being a designer at NGM entails a lot of attention to typographic, alignment, quality and consistency details. The job is a collaborative effort between design/copy/graphic/map/photo editors and the delicate art of putting it all together on the page so it prints properly (my job!). I had my hand in 2 to 3 feature stories per month plus special issues, supplement posters, info-graphics, maps, in-house ads, special projects and iPad.
